Grantham University, specializing in educating working adults, relocated from New Orleans to Kansas City as a result of Hurricane Katrina. On April 20, 2006, at 4 p.m., the University will commemorate its new 30,000 square foot main campus building at Zona Rosa in the Northland of Kansas City with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Members of the Zona Rosa business community and special guests including Mayor Kay Barnes and State Treasurer Sarah Steelman will attend. Grantham, an online university with more than 9,500 students, has created 150 new jobs and plans to create more by year's end. Sixty employees relocated from Louisiana with the University ten days after Hurricane Katrina destroyed its facilities in Slidell, La.

"We're grateful for the warm welcome and generosity we have received from the Kansas City community," said Tom Macon, chairman of Grantham University. "The citizens and the business community contributed significantly to the support of our employees and their families when they needed it most."

"We're also thankful for our Louisiana staff who made the move with us," adds Macon. "As an institution of higher learning, we will work hard to serve the citizens of Kansas City and the highly regarded education community in this area."

Established in 1951, Grantham University, has contributed to the formal education of thousands of adult students and military service members, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in a variety of industries. Grantham offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, General Studies, Computer Science, and other technology related degrees.

As a University with a strong focus on academics, Grantham's students complete coursework at times and places that fit their busy schedules. Grantham's faculty, administration, and advisors are comprised of educators, business executives, industry professionals and entrepreneurs. Among the advisors are Dr. D. Bruce Merrifield, former Assistant Secretary of Commerce under President Reagan and an endowed chair at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania; Dr. Herbert I. London, founder, endowed chair, and former Dean of Students at New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study and Dr. Mark Skousen, economist, financial advisor, author and economics professor at Columbia University's Barnard College.

In 2005, Grantham University renamed its business school The Mark Skousen School of Business. The Skousen school offers Master of Business Administration programs and various undergraduate business degree programs. Students will have the opportunity to experience Dr. Skousen's unique blend of applied and theoretical courses in business, finance, and economics.

"We look forward to a successful future in the Kansas City area as we expand our current student base and continue to serve our existing working adult students from the military, federal government and Fortune 500 technology companies," adds Macon.
