Richard Ofori
Richard decided that after retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps, he wanted to work for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), but in order to obtain the position he wanted, he needed a master’s degree. Taking the recommendation of a friend, Richard contacted Grantham University and enrolled in the Business Administration degree program. “One of the selling points of Grantham was that it allowed me to progress at my own pace,” said Richard. And that he did - - - Richard received an Associate degree in Business Administration in 2003, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2004, and a Master’s degree in Information Management Technology in 2005.
Loyd Crathers
CW2 Loyd Crathers enrolled at Grantham University over two years ago. “This University has been the best decision I’ve made in my 21 years in the military,” said CW2 Crathers. “The courses are flexible and designed so we’re allowed to complete them with our busy schedule.” In March 2006, CW2 Crathers graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
Dennie Goss
Chief Warrant Officer Dennie Goss has been a military man for over 34 years. As CW4 Goss began thinking about retirement, he realized that a college degree would make him more viable in the civilian workforce, so he enrolled at Grantham University in May 2004. He chose Grantham because of the open enrollment policy and military scholarship program. “Because the military scholarship covers costs not included in my tuition assistance, my studies so far have been accomplished with no out of pocket expenses from me directly,” said CW4 Goss. "The online access to staff and other students is invaluable, and the cooperation between Grantham and my Post Education Center truly lets me structure my studies around my military duties and commitments.”
James Stasiak
SFC Stasiak is the first in his family to earn a bachelor’s degree. He never thought that he would attend college. “I vowed after graduating from high school that I would never go to school again,” said SFC Stasiak. But that changed when he joined the military and decided to make a career out of it. “I realized I had to have a civilian education if I wanted to compete with my peers for promotion. So, I made it a goal to get a degree. Distance learning really fit me; I was able to concentrate on my new assignment and at the same time set my own schedule when it came to coursework. The knowledge I gained through my studies has made me a better soldier, leader and counselor.”
Richard Fendley
Over the years, MSG Fendley bounced around from school to school completing college classes until he heard about Grantham University. “All of the colleges that I attended were good places for an education, but when I finally became a student with Grantham a couple of years ago, I found out what it meant to be part of a great institution,” said MSG Fendley. “Grantham University was unlike any other university that I had come in contact with – it is exciting, challenging and enlightening.”
Grantham University’s distance learning model worked for MSG Fendley. The faculty was there when he needed them, and the student support channel kept him motivated and on track. MSG Fendley believes that Grantham motivated his life through education and has sparked his imagination for the future. In January 2006, he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and is proud to be a Grantham graduate and alumnus.
Susan Bailey
After being laid off and replaced by someone with a college degree, Susan Bailey vowed that she would never be out of work again because she did not have a college degree. She looked for a university that would suit her busy lifestyle and enrolled at Grantham University in 1998. In January 2005, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Susan’s success at Grantham has had a very positive impact on her career. After beginning her education at Grantham, she received a number of raises, a promotion, increased job responsibilities, and she is now involved in more high profile projects. “With my degree and the knowledge and resources I obtained as a result of my education, I have been able to keep on the cutting edge of my career,” said Bailey. “Grantham has helped me develop the confidence to say ‘Yes, I can do that,’ and the conviction to follow through and succeed.”
Gerald Lea
In 1970, after being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Jerry Lea earned his first of several degrees and certifications in electronics, and since then he has continued to fulfill his craving for knowledge, even after an accident in 1987 left him on disability and in constant pain. After taking some time off, Lea was ready to return to college in 2001 and decided that distance education was right for him because it allowed him to balance work and school. After researching and comparing ten different online universities and evaluating their degree programs and faculty, Lea chose to enroll at Grantham University. “Grantham University was the right institution for me because they have solid, knowledgeable faculty members and a degree program with courses that fit my career goals,” said Lea. “I liked the fact that I could earn my associate degree and continue on to earn my bachelor’s without missing a beat.” After 12 years of determination and hard work, Lea earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Grantham University in August 2005.
