December 2007

Earlier this year, Grantham partnered with GX® magazine, a nationwide publication for members of the National Guard and their families, to offer a full scholarship to an Army National Guard (ARNG) soldier in each U.S. state and territory. The scholarships have a combined value of $1.8 million and cover tuition costs, required textbooks and software at Grantham University.

November 2007

In July, Grantham University announced its partnership with the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) in support of the Air Force's Air University Associate to Baccalaureate Cooperative Program (AU-ABC). This program allows CCAF to partner with military friendly academic institutions, such as Grantham University, who will accept all CCAF degree program credits in one or more of its bachelor degrees.

October 2007

Recently, the Imagine America Foundation announced the winners of the 2007 Military Leadership Award. Dennis Johnson, a student majoring in Business Administration at Grantham University, was one of five award recipients chosen out of 200 applicants to receive the $5,000 leadership award.

September 2007

Time is running out to use your 2006-2007 military Tuition Assistance (TA) benefits. For some of you, that could mean up to $4,500 toward your college degree every year. TA is offered each fiscal year, and if you don't use your benefits by September 29th, 2007 - you will lose them. Recently, the ArmyTimes announced the winner of the 2007 Service Member of the Year Award, and Grantham student Sergeant First Class Scott Griffith was honored to discover that he had been given a notable mention. Sgt. 1st Class Griffith, a human resources specialist, serves as the operations sergeant for the 84th Training Command's leadership development directorate.

Grantham University would like to extend a great big thank you to those students who attended our Focus on the Student Event on June 7th and 8th. This event is one of many that we hope to have at Grantham in the years to come.

We invited nine students and their guests to attend the event in Kansas City, MO. The students were chosen through faculty recommendations and student inquiries.

On Tuesday, May 15th, three Grantham University alumni graduated from the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA).  Sergeant Major of the Army Kenneth O. Preston was the commencement speaker for Class 57 of the Sergeants Major Academy at the Plaza Theater in downtown El Paso. Command Sergeants Major (CSM) B. Kinsey, Grantham alumnus, was one of the 621 students who graduated from the nine month program.

On April 12th, Grantham University received a Cornerstone Award from the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Kansas City in recognition of its business expansion. Representing Grantham University, Jayne Ritzinger and Joseph McGrath attended the reception to accept the award from Mayor Kay Barnes. EDC established the Cornerstone Award more than 20 years ago to identify and honor economic development projects that contribute to the growth and stability of Kansas City’s economy.

On April 18, 2007, at the Distance Education and Training Council’s (DETC) 81st Annual Conference, graduates from all over the United States will be recognized for their hard work, dedication and academic excellence, including Grantham University’s DETC Outstanding Graduate, Staff Sergeant Christopher Correll. SSgt Correll was chosen for his excellent academic performance, and for his perseverance toward earning his degree.

Mr. Hank Gray enrolled in Grantham University’s Electronics Engineering Technology program in August 2006. He has worked in the Science and Engineering field for almost thirty years at Stanford University’s Linear Acceleration Center, in the Power Conversion group.

The Council of College and Military Educators (CCME) held its 2007 Symposium in Monterrey, California. This year’s conference centered on the theme, “Joint Patriots...Driving Transformation.” During the conference, it was announced that Dr. Greg Garcia, Grantham University’s Academic Dean, was selected to serve as Secretary to CCME’s Board.

Memorandum of Understanding with DAUJanuary 2007

This month, Grantham University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) to accept educational credit earned through successful completion of DAU courses and programs as transfer or elective credit at Grantham University. This agreement allows DAU graduates to apply transfer credits from 63 different courses toward an undergraduate or graduate degree at Grantham.
