Multidisciplinary Studies Program Description
The Multidisciplinary Studies (MDS) degree program is structured to meet the educational needs of adult learners. MDS provides students with a variety of options to meet university requirements for an undergraduate degree grounded in the liberal arts or sciences. The program provides a larger number of course selections so that a student can tailor his/her degree to specific career specialization areas. This degree program includes a broad-based general education requirement as well as an “umbrella specialization” component allowing students to choose a specialty area within a larger structured liberal arts and sciences curriculum. Advisors and/or faculty will assist students in developing a comprehensive curriculum that fulfills their educational and career needs.
The Multidisciplinary Studies program enables students to:
- Function effectively on teams;
- Communicate effectively;
- Recognize the need for engaging in lifelong learning;
- Analyze, synthesize, and manipulate new information, ideas, and language in their historical and social contexts;
- Present ideas in written and visual form in a variety of contexts and formats appropriate to their audience and purpose;
- Use systematic, logical, critical, and creative processes to identify and research problems, and propose/evaluate alternative solutions.
- Identify, locate, evaluate, and use electronic, print and/or media information sources;
- Use cognitive skills and problem-solving techniques to analyze data and scientific information;
- Use current techniques, skills, and tools to function effectively in a diverse, changing, and multi-faceted work environment.
