Canfield, Ph.D.

Thomas CanfieldGlobal Faculty Member, Dr. Thomas Canfield, received his generalist Ph.D. in English, with a specialization in Elizabethan Drama, from the University of Louisiana in 1998. Prior to that, he received his Master of Arts in English from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. He has instructed a wide range of English courses, including Freshman and Sophomore Composition; Advanced Exposition; Drama and Poetry; Novel and Short Fiction; surveys of Early and Modern British and American Literature; and Shakespeare.

Currently, Dr. Canfield is pursuing a second Master’s degree in Theatre History/Dramatic Literature and Dramaturgy at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he is the chief writer for Theatre Training News and an archivist in the Patricia McIlrath Center for Mid-American Theatre. This season, he is also the dramaturg for the UMKC production of William Wycherley’s Restoration comedy, The Country Wife, and is composing program essays for the Kansas City Repertory Theatre productions of Gee’s Bend and The Drawer Boy. A member of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education and the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas, Dr. Canfield also has been the dramaturg for productions of King Lear at the KC Rep and Romeo and Juliet at the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival.
